Description

The 12000XP is an excellent choice for solar power backup systems or off-grid systems with large loads. Each leg of 120V power can support up to 50A of loads continuously, which is enough to run mechanical shop equipment like saws, lathes, or CNC machines.

This home energy storage unit allows for electric vehicle charging without shutting the system down when another appliance is turned on. If 50A of 120/240V power is not enough for the household loads, the 12000XP inverter can have six units in parallel for a total of 300A of continuous power.

This inverter works as part of a solar and battery powered emergency backup system that turns on battery power within 10ms of grid power cutting out. The low THD (total harmonic distortion, a measure of how clean or dirty the frequency is) lets appliances operate without interruption and minimizes humming.

This inverter is equipped with two MPPTs (Maximum Power Point Trackers) with two parallel inputs each, a dedicated generator port, and a programmable port for smart load control or AC coupling. It pairs well with 48V batteries such as the EG4 Indoor WallMount, LL-S, or LiFePower4 rack mount batteries

EG4’s 12000XP includes a generator auto-start function. This feature communicates with the BMS (Battery Management System) to evaluate the battery SOC (State of Charge %). When the  battery reaches a user defined level of charge, the inverter automatically starts the generator to redirect power to simultaneously charge the batteries and run loads. This feature optimizes battery health.

The 12000XP smart load feature powers loads only when user-defined battery charge levels and PV input requirements are met. Power is maintained on the regular Loads port at all times and acts as the “critical loads” port, while the Smart Loads port is only powered when excess power is available. Many people choose to put water pumps or EV (electric vehicle) chargers on this port to utilize extra power that the batteries don’t need.

The Smart Load port allows for AC coupling, using either microinverters or a separate inverter system to feed in AC power to the 12000XP. This allows for a total of five solar inputs: four through the MPPTs, and one through AC coupling. Input can be up to 62.5A.

AC coupling works similarly to smart load control. When the battery SOC falls below a certain level, the 12000XP automatically diverts the AC coupled solar power to charge the batteries. Once the batteries charge to the user defined limit, the power diverts back to loads instead of battery charging.

The 12000XP has advanced safety features such as arc fault protection, reverse polarity protection, and RSD (Rapid Shutdown) capability. The RSD function requires an external emergency shutoff switch wired into the inverter.

For systems with multiple inverters, the switch must connect to the primary inverter. When activated, the 12000XP automatically terminates its own power and the power of any connected inverters. This feature provides compliance with NEC 690.12.

Choose EG4’s 12000XP for a powerful UL 1741 certified inverter able to run off-grid residential or commercial energy systems.
