About the Sol-Ark Limitless 12K-2P-LL Hybrid Inverter
The Limitless 12K-2P-LL consolidates the solar charge controller, battery inverter, grid-tie inverter, and automatic transfer equipment into one transformerless 48V hybrid unit. It delivers 12,000W of continuous AC power and a 24,000W ten-second surge when off-grid, with a 5ms transfer time that keeps critical loads online through a utility outage. The enclosure is NEMA 3R / IP65 rated for outdoor or indoor mounting, and the unit weighs 65 lb.
Three Independent MPPTs and 19.2 kW of PV Input
Three MPPTs each accept up to two PV strings each, for 19,200W of usable array power. Each MPPT tops out at 6.4kW, handles a 500 VOC maximum, and self-limits to 32A even though the hardware tolerates a 60A short-circuit current. The rated MPPT tracking window is 150-425V, with a 125V startup. Strings sharing one MPPT must be designed to the same open-circuit voltage, since mismatched strings pull the pair down to the lowest string. Exceeding 500 VOC on any MPPT will damage the unit, so string sizing should account for open-circuit voltage at your minimum design temperature.
Battery Support and Charging
The 12K-2P-LL is a 48V nominal system that operates between 43V and 59V and accepts both lead-acid and lithium chemistries. Maximum charge and discharge current is 220A, and a 3-stage charge algorithm with equalization handles lead-acid banks while closed-loop CANBus or RS485 Modbus communication runs lithium banks from Sol-Ark's tested battery partner list. Battery capacity is configurable from 50 to 9,900 Ah.
Compatible 48V banks we stock include the Pytes V16, Pytes V5, BigBattery NEXUS, Eneramp Endurance 5, and ECO-WORTHY PowerMega 314. An included temperature sensor performs voltage compensation for lead-acid banks; lithium batteries do not need it.
Grid, Generator, and AC Coupling
The 100A GRID terminal supports up to 100A of passthrough, and the unit measures grid import and export at this terminal. The 60A GEN terminal (58A continuous) accepts a 120/240V split-phase generator under 14kW with integrated two-wire automatic start, or serves as a Smart Load output or an AC coupling input for micro and string inverters up to 14,000W. Larger generators connect to the GRID terminal instead, which accepts 220V single-phase, 120/240V split-phase, and 120/208V 3-phase (2 of 3 legs).
Work Modes and Load Management
The Limiter menu lets you match production to your interconnection rules. Grid Sell exports all available solar, Limited Power to Home (Meter Zero) supplies the whole home without selling back for sites without an export permit, Limited Power to Load covers only the essential loads panel for off-grid setups, and the corresponding Grid Sell variants allow capped export. Time of Use adds six daily intervals for battery discharge, charging, or selling at programmable rates and SOC limits. The included pair of 200A CT sensors (Ø0.96") enable Meter Zero and grid peak shaving; larger 600A CTs are available to purchase for bigger service conductors.
Backup, Parallel Stacking, and Monitoring
A single unit covers 120/240V applications, and up to 12 units stack in parallel for larger split-phase or even 120/208V three-phase systems, sharing one common battery bank. Intelligent air cooling keeps the unit running across the full -40°C to 60°C range, with output derating above 45°C and above 3,000m (9,842ft) of elevation. The included Wi-Fi/Ethernet dongle connects to the MySolArk platform for remote monitoring and setting changes.
Protection and Certifications
Integrated protection covers PV DC disconnect (NEC 240.15), ground fault detection (NEC 690.5), rapid shutdown control (NEC 690.12), arc fault detection (NEC 690.11), PV input lightning protection, reverse polarity protection, and DC Type II / AC Type II surge protection. The unit's emergency-stop pins trigger rapid shutdown when closed, so pairing it with an initiator like the IMO Rapid Shutdown Initiator gives you a code-compliant manual shutdown for the array. The inverter is listed to UL 1741 3rd Edition SB, UL 1741 CRD-PCS, Hawaiian Electric SRD V2.0, UL 1699B PVDC AFCI, UL 1998, and CSA C22.2 No. 107. It ships with a 10-year standard warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. With a battery bank connected, the default Limited Power to Load mode covers the essential loads panel without a transfer switch. Battery-only output is 10,000W (41A at 240V). Do not enable Grid Sell on an off-grid system, and when running a generator, switch the grid mode to General Standard and widen the frequency and voltage ranges.
A 120/240V split-phase generator under 14kW connects to the 60A GEN terminal (58A continuous) with integrated two-wire start. Generators over 14kW connect to the GRID terminal. The unit does not support 120V single-phase generators, and running two of three phases of a 120/208V generator on the GEN terminal voids the warranty, though 3-phase can be run through the GRID terminals.
Yes, through the GEN terminal, up to 14,000W. AC-coupled inverters must be UL 1741 or UL 1741SA certified for frequency-based disconnect. Load-side AC coupling is not supported on this model.
Up to 12 units in parallel, which requires a single shared battery bank across all inverters. Without a battery, units cannot run in parallel and each must be set to Grid Sell mode independently.
Yes. The enclosure is NEMA 3R / IP65 rated for outdoor or indoor mounting. The LCD screen must be protected from direct UV; the included sunshade handles this, and UV damage to the screen is not covered under warranty.
A 48V nominal bank only, operating between 43V and 59V, in lead-acid or lithium. Lithium batteries that are part of Sol-Ark’s tested partner list run in closed-loop CANBus or RS485 communication.
