Why PV wire?
PV wire is built for life on a roof, with thick insulation that holds up to sunlight, heat, cold, and moisture. Standard building wire is not rated for that kind of exposure, so array runs that live outside should be PV wire.
Keep connectors matched
MC4 connectors are tested to mate with their own series. Mixing brands can look like a fit but lead to loose, hot connections, so use Stäubli MC4 or MC4-Evo 2 on both halves of every connection.
Crimp it right

PV Wire and MC4 FAQ
10 AWG PV wire handles most residential solar panel strings and is the most common size for array wiring. Long runs or high current strings may need a heavier gauge to keep voltage drop down. Contact our support team and we’ll help you size it.
We recommend against it. Connectors are tested and listed to mate with their own series, so use Stäubli MC4 or MC4-Evo 2 on both halves of every connection.
MC4-Evo 2 is Stäubli’s newer generation connector with higher ratings, and it is designed to mate with original Stäubli MC4 connectors.
Yes. MC4 contacts need a crimp tool made for them to get the right crimp profile. We carry the Stäubli crimper and crimping pliers, plus spanners for tightening the connector nuts. Or skip the tools and order pre-crimped cables from the custom PV cable builder.
