Frequently Asked Questions

The XS 12/12-50A is 12V input to 12V output only. The XS 1400 handles any combination of 12V and 24V, both input and output. Both deliver up to 50A. If your system is 12V on both sides and will stay that way, the XS 12/12-50A is smaller, lighter, and less expensive. If you have a 24V house bank, a mixed-voltage system, or might upgrade to 24V in the future, the XS 1400 covers all configurations with one unit.

Non-isolated. The input and output share a common ground. In most vehicle and RV installations this is standard and simplifies wiring, since you can use the vehicle chassis as the shared negative path. If your system requires galvanic isolation between the input and output (uncommon in most mobile builds), you would need a different product.

The Orion XS is designed for DC-to-DC charging from an alternator or other variable DC source. For solar charging, use a dedicated MPPT solar charge controller, which is specifically designed to track the solar panel's maximum power point. The Orion XS does not perform MPPT.

No. The Orion XS works standalone with Bluetooth and VictronConnect for configuration and monitoring. The Cerbo GX adds VRM remote access and DVCC system coordination, which are valuable in larger systems but not required for the charger to function.

DVCC (Distributed Voltage and Current Control) is a feature that runs on a Cerbo GX or other GX device. It coordinates charging across every connected source (the Orion XS, solar controllers, and inverter/chargers) as a single system, distributing current limits from the battery's BMS so nothing overcharges. The Orion XS participates in DVCC automatically once it is connected to a GX device via VE.Direct. You enable DVCC in the Cerbo's settings menu under "DVCC." There is no configuration needed on the Orion XS itself. It requires Orion XS firmware v1.03 or later and Venus OS v3.20 or later on the GX device.

Through the VictronConnect app over Bluetooth. The Orion XS has built-in Bluetooth, so you connect directly from your phone, tablet, or laptop. The app gives you access to all settings: charge profile selection, custom voltage and current parameters, input current limits, engine detection behavior, remote on/off configuration, and firmware updates. A Cerbo GX adds VRM remote access and DVCC system coordination, but the Orion XS is fully configurable as a standalone unit through VictronConnect alone.
