About the Victron Battery Switch ON/OFF 275A
Rotary ON/OFF disconnect for the positive DC line between a battery bank and the rest of the system. 275A continuous, 455A for one minute, and a 1,250A cranking rating. The 60V maximum operating voltage covers 12V, 24V, and 48V nominal battery systems with headroom above typical absorption charge voltages.
Removable Lockout Knob
The knob has three positions: ON (clockwise), OFF (counterclockwise), and REMOVE (30° past OFF). To pull the knob, turn it to OFF first, then continue another 30° counterclockwise to the Remove position and pull it straight off the shaft. With the knob removed, the switch stays in the OFF position and can't be re-energized without physically reinstalling the knob. This gives you a real lockout capability during maintenance or for securing an unattended system against battery drain.
The switch is rated to break under load, but if alternators, motors, or sensitive DC equipment are connected downstream, shut those off first before turning the battery switch to OFF. Opening a live circuit with inductive loads can produce voltage spikes even on an ignition-protected switch.
Cable Access and Installation
The switch mounts either surface-mounted (front of enclosure or wall) or panel-mounted (through a cutout with the knob on one side and the terminals on the other). Four removable side panels give access for cable routing from any direction without tight bends. The M10 (3/8") tin-plated copper studs accept ring lugs up to 4/0 AWG. Victron includes 16 adhesive label stickers with the switch for labeling the ON/OFF positions and identifying the circuit.
Ignition Protection
Certified to both ISO 8846 and SAE J1171 for ignition protection. The switch won't produce arcs capable of igniting flammable vapors during normal operation, which is required for installation in battery enclosures with flooded lead-acid batteries, generator rooms, or any space where hydrogen or fuel vapors may accumulate.
