IntegraRack BladderBallast 105-Gallon Water Ballast for BallastRack Ground Mounts
The IntegraRack BladderBallast turns water into solar ground mount ballast for IntegraRack BallastRack frames. Set one bladder between each pair of frames, fill it on site, and it adds up to 875lbs of hold-down weight per panel without concrete footings, augers, or truckloads of soil.
How the Water Ballast Bladder Works
The water ballast bladder holds 105gal and weighs up to 875lbs when full. That weight presses the BallastRack base tubes to the ground and resists uplift, the same job concrete blocks or soil fill perform. IntegraRack rates water ballast as the easiest BallastRack mounting method to install.
Ballast Weight and Frame Requirements
IntegraRack calls for one bladder per solar panel. Each frame model and mounting method carries a minimum ballast weight on its stamped datasheet. A full bladder clears the base-frame ballast minimum on the IR-30 datasheet (350lbs per module) and the IR-45ASA datasheet (525lbs per module). Check your frame’s datasheet before you fill.
Two Ways to Set the Bladder
Lay each bladder between frame sections on IR EarthBallast geotextile fabric stretched across the base tubes. Or build a platform from treated 2x4 lumber spanning the base tubes of each frame. The platform keeps the bladder above the bolt heads on the base tube.
What to Buy Separately
The IntegraRack BladderBallast covers the ballast weight. Plan on 1" conduit (EMT) or base tube composite pipe to link the frames, which hardware and electrical supply stores carry in 10' lengths. Add an IR EarthBallast kit or treated 2x4 lumber for the platform, plus the BallastRack frames.
Wind Ratings and Site Selection
IntegraRack gives water ballast the lowest wind ratings of its BallastRack mounting options. It suits lower-wind sites, temporary arrays, and locations where digging or pouring concrete is off the table. For high-wind exposure, IntegraRack recommends bolting frames to a concrete slab, the mounting method with its highest wind ratings.
Building Permit Considerations
IntegraRack classifies BallastRack frames as temporary, movable, pre-engineered accessory structures when you ballast them per its published datasheets. The company cites Chapter 1, Section [A] 105.2 of the 2018, 2021, and 2024 International Building Code (IBC) to exempt those structures from a building permit as long as they stand no taller than 5'9". Some counties classify temporary structures differently, so confirm with your local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) before you install.
Emergency Water and Relocation
Since the bladder holds water instead of soil or concrete, it doubles as emergency water storage on site. The temporary install also lets you drain the bladders and relocate the array.

Frequently Asked Questions
Up to 875lbs per bladder when you fill it to its 105gal capacity.
IntegraRack calls for one per solar panel. Check your frame’s stamped datasheet for its minimum ballast weight.
IntegraRack BallastRack ground mount frames, including the IR-15, IR-30, IR-40FSA, IR-45ASA, and IR-EW15.
No. You can use the IR EarthBallast kit or set the bladders on treated 2x4 lumber spanning the base tubes of each frame.
Yes, as long as the bladder meets the minimum ballast weight on your frame’s stamped datasheet.
IntegraRack gives water ballast the lowest wind ratings of its mounting methods. For high-wind sites, bolt the frames to a concrete slab instead.
IntegraRack cites IBC Section [A] 105.2 to exempt BallastRack frames under 5'9" tall when you ballast them per its datasheets. Some counties classify temporary structures differently, so check with your local AHJ.
Yes. IntegraRack treats water ballast as a temporary install, so you can drain the bladders and relocate the array.
IntegraRack notes the bladder doubles as emergency water storage.
