IntegraRack IR-45ASA Seasonally Adjustable BallastRack Ground Mount
The IR-45ASA takes everything that makes IntegraRack's BallastRack line so easy to work with and adds the one feature serious off-grid and high-latitude owners ask for most: real seasonal adjustment. Each frame carries two sliding arms that lock at any angle between 15° and 45°, and because every panel adjusts on its own, you can fine-tune an entire array to squeeze more production out of it as the sun moves through the year. It is one of the lowest cost-per-kW ground mounts on the market, and it installs without rails, earth augers, post pounding, or heavy machinery.
Dial in the Perfect Angle, Season After Season
A fixed-angle rack is always a compromise between summer and winter. The IR-45ASA removes that compromise. Loosen two bolts, slide the arm to your target angle, and lock it back down. Flatter angles near 15° favor the high summer sun, while steeper angles toward 45° capture a low winter sun and help shed snow. Running each panel independently also means you can stagger angles across a site or adjust one row at a time. When you route your wiring, leave a little slack near the front legs so the panels can move freely each time you re-angle them.
A Rail-Free Design That Works Harder
Instead of long rails running across the back of your modules, the IR-45ASA uses IntegraRack's IR-F2 flange clamps, which grip the sides of the module frame from below. With nothing spanning the rear of the panel, more light and airflow reach the back of the array. That airflow helps keep modules cooler and reduces the heat-related losses common with enclosed or bin-style mounts, and the open backside suits bifacial modules well. The IR-F2 clamp does double duty: two piercing barbs bite through the anodized module frame to bond neighboring panels together, giving you integrated module-to-module grounding as you go.
Four Ways to Mount, Concrete Optional
The IR-45ASA can be secured almost anywhere, and only one of the four methods involves concrete. All of the non-concrete methods use 1” EMT conduit to tie the frames into rows, which you can pick up at most hardware stores.
- IR EarthBallast System: lays a strong geotextile fabric over the frames, held down by a mound of compacted soil. It is a fast, no-dig way to reach high wind ratings. The kit includes the fabric and epoxy; 3/4" steel forming stakes are recommended.
- IR AnchorSpike or EarthScrew System: uses two driven anchors per frame, either secured with epoxy (AnchorSpike) or by the screws themselves (EarthScrew), with a required site soil test verifying at least 1,200 lbs of uplift per anchor. Best in medium-to-high-density compacted soil and not suited to regions where frost depth exceeds 20 inches.
- Concrete Anchor Bolt (Lag Bolt) Mounting Kit: bolts the frames directly to a slab, footing, driveway, or patio for the strongest possible hold. Site-specific engineering is recommended for concrete installs.
- Base Ballast: holds the frames down with concrete curb stops or a water tote tank set into the U-shaped frame, sourced locally. Handy for temporary setups or where you cannot dig or drill.
Wind and Snow Ratings
Load ratings depend on the tilt angle, the module size, and how you anchor the system. The figures below are for modules up to 24 sqft, taken across the full 15° to 45° range. The complete angle-by-angle table, including modules up to 30 sqft, is on the stamped engineering datasheet.
- Ballast-only mounting (curb stops or water tank): roughly 65-100 mph winds
- Anchored mounting (EarthBallast, AnchorSpike or EarthScrew, or concrete bolt): roughly 100-160 mph winds
Larger modules up to 30 sqft rate lower, roughly 90-140 mph when anchored. For snow, the IR-45ASA holds up to 100 psf with modules up to 24 sqft, and up to 65 psf with modules up to 30 sqft, at every angle. To reach the highest ratings on exposed outer-perimeter rows that are not shielded by homes, walls, or other structures, additional ballast may be required, so consult a local engineer when designing for hurricane-force winds.
How Many Frames Do I Need?
Frames sit on both sides of each module and are shared between neighboring panels, so you’ll need one frame per panel plus an extra frame to start the row. For example, a row of 10 panels needs 11 frames.
Easy to Install and Built to Last
Every IR-45ASA is backed by IntegraRack's 25-year limited product warranty, in either the aircraft-grade aluminum or the black-zinc electroplated steel frame. Assembly is straightforward with common tools, a screw gun with a 1/2-inch socket (not an impact gun), a level, a tape measure, and a string line. It is easy enough for a couple people to set up, though we always recommend having a qualified professional handle site-specific structural engineering and any electrical connections, and grounding the array per the current National Electrical Code.
