Description
The Victron SmallBMS NG is a next-generation battery management system designed exclusively for Victron Lithium NG batteries, providing essential protection and monitoring without VE.Bus communication. The NG version introduces built-in Bluetooth connectivity in the BMS itself rather than individual batteries, creating a centralized monitoring point for all connected batteries through VictronConnect. This design eliminates the need for a separate SmartShunt as the BMS receives current and state of charge data directly from the NG batteries’ integrated current sensors.
The SmallBMS NG serves as a cost-effective alternative to the VE.Bus BMS NG for systems that don’t require integration with MultiPlus or Quattro inverter/chargers. It’s specifically designed for DC systems using Phoenix inverters, BatteryProtect devices, Cyrix relays, and other non-VE.Bus equipment. The absence of VE.Bus interface makes it incompatible with VE.Bus inverter/chargers but significantly reduces complexity and cost for simpler installations.
The load disconnect output provides 1A maximum current to control remote on/off inputs of BatteryProtect units, inverters, DC-DC converters, and other loads. When cell undervoltage is imminent, the output becomes free-floating to disconnect loads and protect the batteries from deep discharge. The charge disconnect output similarly controls chargers, Cyrix-Li-Charge relays, and battery combiners to prevent overcharging conditions. Neither output is suitable for directly driving inductive loads like relay coils.
A pre-alarm output triggers visual or audible warnings at least 30 seconds before load disconnect occurs, providing advance notice of low battery conditions. This 1A output can drive LEDs, buzzers, or relays for system alerts. The configurable discharge floor setting prevents excessive discharge while maintaining sufficient energy for self-discharge after shutdown. Users can adjust the low SOC warning level through VictronConnect to trigger the pre-alarm at optimal thresholds.
Two LED indicators provide system status: blue for Bluetooth connection and red for warnings and alarms. The Instant Readout feature displays key data including SOC, temperature, warnings, and alarms on the VictronConnect device list without requiring connection to the product. A remote on/off terminal allows external control of both load and charge disconnect outputs for system-wide management.
