Well made -- but MC4s were not tightened

Arrived in perfect condition. Nicely made. But as I worked with them, I noticed that the MC4 connectors were a bit loose. I had to tighten them. Insulation is very thick. Had to use an alternative wire stripper -- my Jokari cable knife wasn't able to cut deeply enough, even at its deepest setting. What technique should I have used?
