About the MidNite Solar MNSHUNT 50mV/500A Battery Shunt
The MidNite Solar MNSHUNT gives your system an accurate reference point for battery monitoring. MidNite calibrates the shunt to ±0.25% accuracy and backs it with a 5-year warranty.
How a Shunt Measures Current
A shunt is a precision low-resistance resistor placed in the battery negative conductor. Current flowing through it creates a small voltage drop, and a monitor reads that drop to calculate amps in and out of the battery bank. This 50mV/500A shunt produces 0.1mV per amp.
Pairing With the Whiz Bang Jr
MidNite designed the Whiz Bang Jr current sense module to attach to this shunt and wire into Classic and The Kid charge controllers. With both installed, the controller reads system amps instead of its own charging current alone, so the EndAmps setting can respond to the full battery picture. The standard rating also suits other battery monitors that call for a 50mV/500A shunt.
Mounting and Connections
Taptite mounting screws come in the box, and two 8-32 tapped holes on one end accept a bus bar connection.

Frequently Asked Questions
The MidNite Solar MNSHUNT creates a small, precise voltage drop proportional to battery current, which a battery monitor or the Whiz Bang Jr reads to calculate amps.
This 50mV/500A shunt produces 0.1mV for each amp of current.
Yes. It works with battery monitors designed for a standard 50mV/500A shunt. Confirm the shunt rating your monitor requires before ordering.
The shunt installs in the battery negative conductor so charging and load current pass through it.
The shunt includes Taptite mounting screws. Two 8-32 tapped holes on one end allow a bus bar connection.
