IntegraRack IR-08MBCB MultiBallast 8° Solar Panel Mount
The IR-08MBCB is IntegraRack's lightweight, rail-free way to give a flat installation a productive tilt. Each mount is held down by a standard cinder block or bonded straight to the roof with adhesive, so you can build a full array on a flat roof, a patio, or open ground without drilling a single hole. Modular components slide together into a sturdy frame, and because everything is 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum, the kit stays light enough to ship in a small box while standing up to the elements.
A Low Tilt That Lifts Production
Laying panels dead flat leaves output on the table and lets dust and debris sit on the glass. An 8° tilt is a small change that pays off twice: it angles the panels for better energy capture than a flat layout, and it lets rain run off and carry away the grime that would otherwise build up and shade your cells. All of the panels tilt the same direction, which you aim toward the equator (south in the northern hemisphere) for the strongest yield, all while keeping a low profile that maintains low wind uplift.
Ballast It or Bond It
You have two ways to secure the system, and neither one penetrates the roof:
- Cinder-block ballast: Drop two standard solid 4×8×16in CMU blocks into each kit, then run two bolts through the center of each base mount until they bite into the block to lock it in place. Blocks are sourced locally and are not included.
- Adhesive bonding: Where ballast is not an option, one tube of Sikaflex 1A Polyurethane Sealant bonds up to ten base mounts directly to the roof. Apply a zig-zag bead to each roof-touching surface and set the mounts in place.
Roof material slip sheets, roughly 9×6in, are recommended underneath each base to protect the membrane.
Rail-Free Bonding With IR-F2 Clamps
The IR-08MBCB uses IntegraRack's under-mount IR-F2 flange clamps, which grip the side flange of the module and clamp it firmly to the H brackets. Two piercing barbs bite through the anodized module frame to bond neighboring panels together as you install them, giving you integrated module-to-module bonding. For bonding across rows, IntegraRack's IR-B1 Bonding Jumpers carry the bond from one row to the next. Whole-system grounding still needs to be provided per the current National Electrical Code and completed by a licensed electrician.
The Wind Spoiler Prevents Wind Uplift
An angled panel leaves an open wedge behind its raised edge, and open space is exactly what the wind wants to get under and lift. The MultiBallast Wind Spoiler closes off that gap behind each panel so air cannot get beneath the array. One wind spoiler is required behind each panel and is sold separately.
Wind and Snow Ratings
The MultiBallast line was wind-tunnel tested at the University of Washington's Kirsten Wind Tunnel. For the IR-08MBCB, with the required wind spoiler in place, the ratings depend on your module size and how heavy your cinder blocks are:
- With standard 32 lb blocks: up to 120 mph for modules up to 24 sqft, and up to 95 mph for modules up to 34 sqft
- With lighter 20 lb blocks: up to 90 mph for modules up to 24 sqft, and up to 65 mph for modules up to 34 sqft
Snow load holds at 100 psf for modules up to 24 sqft and 65 psf for modules up to 34 sqft. Because the ballast and panels add dead load to the structure, confirm your roof can carry the extra weight, and have a qualified professional review the structure before you install.
How Many Kits Do I Need?
The IR-08MBCB is sold per panel. Plan on one kit for each solar panel, plus one additional kit to start each row, and one wind spoiler behind each panel. For example, a row of 12 panels needs 13 kits and 12 wind spoilers. The system fits framed modules of any size in landscape orientation, and the spacing between each pair of mounts is set by your panel length and the module maker's recommended clamping zones.

Every IR-08MBCB is backed by IntegraRack's 25-year limited product warranty. At roughly 8lbs shipped per kit, it arrives by ground parcel in a compact box, and its modular parts slide together with nothing more than a 1/2" (13mm) ratchet wrench, a tape measure, chalk line, and a hammer. Once it is ballasted and bonded, it holds its position with no ongoing upkeep, and it can be picked up and repositioned if you ever rework the array. Setup is approachable enough for a confident owner, though we always recommend a qualified professional confirm the roof's structural capacity and handle the electrical connections and grounding.
