EG4 GridBOSS Microgrid Interconnect Device (MID)

Description

EG4’s GridBOSS is an MID (Microgrid Interconnect Device), also known as a gateway, for connecting, operating and organizing power systems. It serves as a centralized hub that integrates grid power, hybrid inverters, generators, and smart loads.

• EG4 FlexBoss21

Hybrid inverters operate bi-directionally, managing and blending power from solar panels, batteries, and AC sources like grid or generator power.

The GridBOSS v3.1 provides customizable breaker options as breakers are not included with the unit. Compatible breakers include BSB or Eaton breakers.

Advanced Safety Features

When the GridBOSS detects a loss in grid power, it immediately opens the grid transfer switch,  isolating the system from the grid to prevent power from flowing out. This protects linemen and other professionals who work on the general power system during an emergency. 

The GridBOSS can communicate with a remote RSD (Rapid Shutdown) initiator. When activated, the RSD device triggers the entire system to safely shut down according to the NEC (National Electrical Code) requirements for external ESS (Energy Storage System) disconnects.

Consistent Power During Outages

Off-Grid Mode: During a power loss, the GridBOSS switches connected inverters into off-grid mode to power critical loads without interruption. After a restored grid power connection, the GridBOSS automatically re-connects to the grid to resume normal operation. 

Generator Connections: For extended outages, the GridBOSS provides a generator start signal (two-wire start) and accepts generator power through the 125A smart load port. After a programmable warm-up period, the transfer switch engages, providing generator power to loads and the hybrid inverters for battery charging. After the batteries are replenished, the generator is disconnected and shut off after a cool-down delay.

• The GridBOSS provides a service gateway for the entire system and has a 22kAIC service rating. 

• With an added main circuit breaker, a utility meter can feed the GridBOSS directly. 
• This unit includes a manual bypass switch, meaning grid power can bypass the energy storage system and directly power critical loads.

Comprehensive and Flexible Power: The GridBOSS incorporates a 200A transfer switch able to pass power from the electrical grid or from connected inverters. It’s possible to connect up to three FlexBOSS21 inverters to the GridBOSS, simplifying the system’s wiring process. 

Connect up to Three FlexBOSS21 Inverters: The MID supports up to three hybrid inverters with each port rated up to 90A. This makes it possible to connect up to three FlexBOSS21 inverters to the GridBOSS.

Programmable Smart Load Ports: EG4 designed the GridBOSS with four programmable smart load ports, which support AC coupled inverters and smart load management up to 125A. The four ports (125A/80A/60A/60A) are an ideal solution for offsetting grid usage during peak generation hours. 

World-Wide Access to Remote Monitoring: EG4’s web monitoring platform facilitates firmware updates, provides remote setting changes, and displays data logs. The remote monitoring app also enables remote system management. 

Durable and Certified for Outdoor Use: This NEMA 3R outdoor-rated unit can be used inside or outside, even in areas with heavy rain or dust. It operates at temperatures from -40°F to 113°F and is certified to UL 1741, UL 67, and UL 869A standards when used with copper wire.
