Frequently Asked Questions

The NEXUS supports closed-loop communication with EG4, Sol-Ark, Victron, Goodwe, Solis, Deye, LUX, Pylontech, and Sofar inverters through the RS485-2/CAN port, and with Voltronic Power and BST inverters through the RS485-3 port. If your inverter isn't on this list, you can still run the NEXUS open-loop by setting the inverter to a lithium or custom battery profile using BigBattery's recommended voltages.

BigBattery recommends 56.8V for both bulk and absorption, with no float or equalize stages (LiFePO4 batteries don't need them). Set the low-voltage cutoff to 50.8V. Maximum allowed charge voltage is 57.6V.

No. The NEXUS should only be paralleled with other NEXUS batteries. Mixing battery models, ages, or chemistries causes uneven loading and can damage the BMS in any of the connected units. The NEXUS also does not support series connection. It is 48V only.

NEC Article 706 does not require grounding for battery systems operating below 60VDC, which includes the NEXUS. The battery does not include a dedicated grounding terminal. If your local code requires it or you want the added safety, consult a licensed electrician for the appropriate grounding method. The inverter itself should always be properly grounded regardless.

The BMS blocks charging below 32°F (0°C) automatically. If ambient temperature is between 32°F and -4°F, the internal heater activates and warms the cells to 41°F before allowing charge current to flow. Below -4°F, the battery will not charge until ambient temperature rises.

BigBattery's monitoring software runs on a Windows PC and connects through the RS485-1 port using a USB-to-RS485 adapter (sold separately). Once connected, it displays cell-level voltage, temperature, charge and discharge current, state of charge, fault history, and live BMS events. For ongoing monitoring, most users rely on their inverter's GX device or app instead, which pulls the same data through the closed-loop communication link.
