About This 10 AWG PV Cable
This is a Type XLP photovoltaic wire with a 103-strand soft-drawn bare copper conductor and cross-linked polyethylene insulation. The XLP insulation resists UV degradation, extreme heat, cold cracking, moisture, and oil exposure. It does not soften at high temperatures like standard thermoplastic insulation. The 0.26" outer diameter is compatible with standard MC4 connector cable glands and PV wire entry fittings.
The dual RHW-2 and USE-2 listing means one cable type covers above-grade installation in conduit or raceway, exposed outdoor runs along array racking, and underground direct burial. That eliminates transitions between different wire types at different points in the system.
Ampacity and Circuit Sizing
At its 90°C rating, 10 AWG PV wire carries up to 40A of allowable ampacity. Per NEC 690.8, PV circuit conductors must be sized for 125% of the maximum circuit current, so this cable supports designs with short-circuit currents up to 32A before derating. Real-world ampacity depends on installation conditions. When multiple conductors share a conduit or rooftop ambient temperatures are high, NEC 310.15 correction and adjustment factors apply. Always calculate adjusted ampacity for your specific installation.
600Vdc Rating
The 600Vdc rating covers all residential solar installations (NEC 690.7 limits residential PV to 600Vdc) and many commercial systems. For commercial systems operating above 600Vdc, a 2000V-rated PV wire is required. This cable also works for battery-system DC circuits operating within the 600V range.

Spools may ship on wood or plastic reels depending on availability. The cable is identical regardless of spool type.

Yes, this cable can be run through conduit if preferred even though it is not needed and can be buried directly into the ground. Be sure to take this into consideration for ampacity calculations.
