Description
The MidNite Solar MNPV4BY3 is a 12-string photovoltaic combiner that provides three independent 4-string outputs for connecting to multiple MPPT inputs on inverters or separate charge controllers. Each output combines up to four PV strings through individual 120A tin-plated copper busbars, enabling connection to inverters with three solar inputs or distribution to three separate devices. The combiner operates at voltages up to 1000VDC with 30A maximum current per string.
The unit includes twelve DIN rail-mounted touch-safe fuse holders compliant with IEC finger-safe standards to IP20 protection rating. These accept 10×38mm fuses rated up to 30A, with all fuses included. The touch-safe design allows fuse replacement without exposing live terminals, meeting NEC requirements for DC overcurrent protection. Each fuseholder terminal accommodates #14 to #6 AWG conductors for string inputs.
Three separate negative busbars provide independent returns for each 4-string group, eliminating the need for external negative combining. A chassis ground busbar accepts conductors up to #1/0 AWG for equipment grounding. Output terminals on each busbar accept #6 to #2/0 AWG cables, sized to handle the combined current of four parallel strings. The independent outputs enable zone monitoring and individual string group disconnection without affecting other arrays.
The NEMA 3R aluminum enclosure features powder coating for corrosion resistance and outdoor durability. A plastic deadfront covers all live terminals after wiring completion, providing additional protection against accidental contact. The enclosure mounts vertically or at angles up to 14 degrees from vertical, accommodating sloped roof installations. Twelve strain reliefs are included for securing incoming PV cables.
Multiple knockout configurations facilitate conduit transitions. Twelve 1/2-inch knockouts on the bottom panel accommodate individual string entries using liquid-tight fittings or strain reliefs. Two 2-inch knockouts on both side and bottom panels provide options for larger conduit runs to inverters or charge controllers. The design enables top cable entry when required, though weather sealing must be maintained for outdoor installations.
The combiner is SGS Listed to UL 1741 standards for USA and Canada, ensuring compliance with electrical codes for both grid-tied and off-grid applications. This certification covers use in systems up to 1000VDC, making it suitable for modern high-voltage string inverters and large series-connected arrays. MidNite Solar manufactures the unit in Arlington, Washington with a 5-year warranty.
