Description
The EG4 hybrid mini-split system combines a standard ductless heat pump with integrated solar capability, allowing the outdoor unit to connect directly to photovoltaic panels through MC4 connectors. Unlike traditional solar-powered air conditioners that require separate inverters, batteries, or charge controllers, these units accept DC power straight from solar panels during daylight hours and automatically switch to grid AC power when solar production drops.
A hybrid mini-split differs from conventional systems through its dual power input design and built-in MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) controller. The outdoor unit accepts 90-380VDC directly from solar panels while simultaneously maintaining connection to standard household power. During sunny conditions, the system prioritizes solar energy consumption, potentially eliminating daytime electricity costs entirely when adequate solar capacity is installed.
The MPPT controller continuously adjusts the electrical operating point to extract maximum power from connected panels, similar to technology used in grid-tied solar inverters.
Each unit includes pre-charged refrigerant lines with self-sealing quick-connect valves at both ends. This eliminates the need for vacuum pumps, refrigerant gauges, brazing equipment, or EPA certification for the installer. The included lineset contains the proper refrigerant charge sealed within the lines themselves, and connection involves threading the fittings hand-tight plus a quarter turn with a wrench.
The indoor wall-mounted unit communicates with the outdoor unit through a four-wire control cable, while a handheld infrared remote provides user control with additional WiFi connectivity available through the Solar Aircon smartphone application.
The 12,000 BTU model operates with variable capacity between 3,000 and 13,000 BTU/hour. The 24,000 BTU unit adjusts output between 6,100 and 26,000 BTU/hour. Both models include inverter-driven compressors that modulate speed based on cooling or heating demand, maintaining precise temperature control while minimizing energy consumption.
Standard features include a five-year limited warranty, automatic defrost cycles for winter heat pump operation, condensate drainage systems for both indoor and outdoor units, and multiple operating modes including cooling, heating, dehumidification, and fan-only circulation.
