The protocol change procedure is a straightforward process. Here, we illustrate the process we utilize internally, but the same steps apply for systems already unboxed/installed
Step 1: Open the box
Once the tape has been severed, open the top flaps of the box and locate which side of the box the front panel of the battery is on. The communications ports we must access will be on the right side of the front panel, so remove the foam packing insert that is obstructing access.
Step 2: Locate RS232 port
The RS232 port is the center port located the bottom-right corner of the front panel.
Step 3: Plug in programming cable
It’s a tight squeeze but it is possible to fit your hands and plug the cable in with the battery still in the box. Make certain that the cable is fully inserted into the port. If this is the first battery being programmed and the PC software is not yet opened, the screen won’t turn on. If the PC software is already open and running, then the screen should light up as soon as the cable is plugged in.
Step 4: Open PC Software & Connect to battery
After the cable has been plugged in, open the programming software and click the red “OPEN” button in the top right corner. After clicking open click “TRY CONNECT”. Do not worry about entering the password for this procedure.
Step 5: Confirm proper connection
If you have properly established the connection to the battery, the software should load the voltages and statuses of the battery. In the top-right corner of the program there is a readout that shows the current protocol as “Pylon(DeYe) CAN”.
Step 6: Change protocol
From the menu below the protocol indication, select the “Pylon 485” protocol.
Step 7: Confirm the change was successful
Now, the indicator for protocol should read as “Pylon 485”. You can now close the software and disconnect the RS232 cable.
Step 8: Identify master battery with a label
Since the programming is only required on 1 battery in the system, we must put a label so that we know to use this battery as our “uplink” to the inverter.
Step 9: Success!
You may now re-pack the box, ensuring all accessories are present, or continue with your install.
