Description
The Victron MultiPlus 12/1200/50-16 is a 12V inverter/charger that combines a 1200VA pure sine wave inverter, 50A battery charger, and 16A transfer switch in a single enclosure. The unit delivers 1000W continuous power at 25°C with 2400W peak surge capacity for starting inductive loads such as motors, pumps, and power tools. Maximum efficiency reaches 93% with zero-load power consumption of 10W in normal operation.
The inverter section operates from a 9.5-17V DC input range, producing 120VAC at 60Hz output. Transfer switching occurs in less than 20 milliseconds during AC power loss, maintaining operation of computers and sensitive electronics without interruption. The 16A transfer switch handles automatic switching between shore power, generator input, or battery power based on availability and load requirements.
PowerControl functionality allows setting maximum input current limits to prevent overloading shore power connections or generators. The MultiPlus monitors AC loads and automatically reduces charging current when total demand approaches the set limit. PowerAssist extends this capability by supplementing insufficient AC input with battery power during peak loads, then resuming charging when demand decreases. This enables operation from limited capacity AC sources while supporting loads that temporarily exceed the available input power.
The 50A battery charger utilizes four-stage adaptive charging with bulk, absorption, float, and storage modes. Charging parameters adjust automatically based on battery usage patterns, with the absorption time varying according to the preceding bulk charge duration. The charger accommodates lead-acid, AGM, gel, and lithium battery chemistries through configurable voltage setpoints. A secondary 1A trickle charge output maintains starter batteries independently from the main battery bank.
VE.Bus communication enables parallel operation of up to six units for increased power output or three-phase configuration. The RJ45 VE.Bus ports support connection to Cerbo GX, Ekrano GX, or other GX devices for system monitoring through Victron Remote Management (VRM). Configuration options include DIP switches for basic settings and VictronConnect or VE.Configure software for detailed parameter adjustment via MK3-USB interface.
Search mode reduces no-load consumption by approximately 70% when enabled, cycling the inverter on briefly every two seconds to detect loads. The programmable relay provides alarm functions or generator start signals based on battery voltage, temperature, or load conditions. Operating temperature range spans -40°C to +65°C with fan-assisted cooling maintaining output capacity across the temperature spectrum.
