CALB LiFePO4 batteries are manufactured under much tighter specifications, and for this reason we have found in our own experience that these are the batteries of choice. Having very consistent internal resistance characteristics, these batteries are known for having a capacity that exceeds their specification by 10% or more. CALB is an abbreviation for “China Aviation Lithium Battery”; their cells are aviation grade and strictly regulated by the Chinese government.
All CALB cells must adhere to very strict quality control standards. Each cell is capacity tested at the factory, so any reputable seller (such as Current Connected) will be able to provide capacity reports correlating to each cell’s serial number. All genuine CALB cells are laser-etched with a QR Code visible from the top of the cell.
It is very important to use a BMS to manage these cells. Here’s Why
LiFePO4 chemistry is easily damaged by over charging, over discharging, over/under temperature, and especially low temperature charging. Use a BMS that monitors each series-connected cell (or group of parallel connected cells) and has a low-temperature cutoff.

I bought 64 of these cells for a new class super-C motorhome based on a 2022 Freightliner Cascadia chassis. I’ve replaced the 4 ea x group 31 factory batteries for engine starting (2000A) with this new combination house + traction battery with 4000Ah @ 13.8 VDC to store 55.2 KW-h. All of the cells tested 245 Ah or more, when discharged to 3.0 Vpc in this system. A REC BMS supervises the temperature, state of charge, and 12KW diesel APU, which feeds into 3 ea Victron Multiplus II 2×120 inverters to supply 360 A of charge current. The battery bank can be charged by shore power, solar, APU, or engine alternator for redundancy. Under this usage, the CALB batteries should last 20+ years, given these are aviation grade cells and not commodity grade EV cells or worse – used cells that are flooding the market. A defining feature of the CALB cell is that it requires NO COMPRESSION, while other brands need 600+ lbs of compressive force to prevent premature failure.
