Description
Cummins RA200 SE 200-Amp Service Entrance Automatic Transfer Switch Overview
The Cummins automatic transfer switch connects between a Cummins Quiet Connect RS series generator and your home. When the grid goes down, it automatically directs generator power to your home. When grid power returns, it automatically reconnects. This single-phase (120/240V), 200A automatic transfer switch can serve as the main service entry point for residential or light commercial installations.
Key Features of the Cummins RA212S3 (RA200 SE)
Listed to UL 1008 and fully compliant with the NEC, the RA212S3 is service entrance rated, meaning it can serve as the main service entry point for the building it protects.
Fully Automatic
This transfer switch continuously monitors grid power and automatically switches to generator backup when the grid goes down. When the grid returns, it automatically reconnects the main panel to power from the grid while simultaneously disconnecting it from generator power.
200-Amp Service Entrance Rating
It’s possible to use the RA200 SE 200A transfer switch as the main service entry point in a 120/240V single-phase residential installation. It includes a UL 489 certified circuit breaker which serves as both the overcurrent protection and the transfer switch.
Dual Mechanical and Electrical Interlocks
Interlocks prevent grid power and generator power from connecting at the same time. This protects linemen from electrocution, as there is no way for the generator power to energize the power lines.
Long-Life Silver Alloy Contacts
High-pressure silver alloy contacts resist burning and pitting, and are mechanically held in both normal and emergency positions. They need no continuous solenoid power to maintain position and therefore ensure reliable operation over years of standby service.
NEMA Type 3R Aluminum Enclosure
The outdoor-rated enclosure protects against rain, sleet, and windblown debris.
Ideal Applications for Automatic Transfer Switches
- Whole-home standby power: The 200A service rating protects an entire home’s electrical service when paired with a compatible Cummins RS series generator.
- Light commercial applications: Small offices, retail spaces, and agricultural buildings with 120/240V single-phase service up to 200A can pair this transfer switch with their Quiet Connect generator for reliable power.
- Vacation and remote properties: Since the Cummins RA200 SE automatically switches between grid and generator power, it works well for unoccupied residences.
Frequently Asked Questions About the Cummins RA212S3 (RA200 SE)
What’s the difference between models rated for service entrance and those not rated for service entrance?
It’s possible to use a model like the RA200 SE that’s rated for service entrance as the building’s main disconnect. This simplifies installation as the transfer switch can also operate as the main electrical panel. Non-service entrance rated versions require an additional panel.
Does it work with any generator?
Cummins designed the RA Series for use with Cummins Quiet Connect RS series generators.
Is brownout protection included?
Not by default. Brownout protection requires the optional Adjustable Voltage Relay Kit (A076C684).
What is the short-circuit withstand rating?
This transfer switch carries a 10kA WCR at 240Vac and below.
What codes does it comply with?
It complies with UL 1008 and NFPA 70 (NEC).
